Susanna Reid reveals why she is absent from Good Morning Britain

Susanna Reid has taken a week off from Good Morning Britain. (ITV) Susanna Reid is still missing from GMB after being diagnosed with a vocal cord infection.

Susanna Reid revealed she has been diagnosed with an infection on her vocal chords. As she explained why she is still absent from Good Morning Britain.

The TV presenter – who was forced to withdraw from hosting the ITV breakfast show the morning after the National Television Awards because she lost her voice. She reassured viewers that she did not have COVID because she Apologies for not being back on screen.

Reid explained in a video on her Instagram Stories: “Sorry I won’t be with you in the morning. Mild infection (no c) vocal cords, which I didn’t even realize I had! Need to rest a bit. See you soon!

“A quick update on my voice you can hear is not 100 per cent. I’m feeling fine but the specialist I saw on Friday said not to risk it until it’s better. Thank you all for stopping by GMB. Thank you for your wonderful suggestions.” She added: “So sorry I couldn’t meet you at @gmb yesterday. I look forward to the expert treatment and thanks for your wonderful suggestions.”

Reid traveled to the studio the morning after attending the NTA Awards. But eplaced by Charlotte Hawkins as co-anchor of GMB. When it emerged that her voice not fit to present the show.

Reid appeared via video link-up from her dressing room and hoarsely said: “I’m fine I can’t speak! “I don’t know [what’s wrong]. I don’t know if it’s the heat that’s causing my vocal chords. It’s funny because of course it was the NTAs last night and when I went to get into my cab the driver Said, ‘You’re the first one to leave. You’re obviously not partying.’ “And of course I don’t drink. I don’t smoke, so there’s no reason I can think of but I’ve lost my voice completely.”

She added: “I’m really sorry. I can only apologise. But thank you Charlotte for stepping in. I didn’t want to have that effect on my viewers for three whole hours.”

Hawkins revealed: “The irony of it is that last night we were all there together, you left first, you hadn’t had anything to drink. I didn’t leave as early as I should have.”

And Balls added: “I left with Susanna at nine o’clock. We got in the same lift, we parted at the transport desk. I have to say you sounded fine at the time. But obviously It’s gone bad overnight.”

Susanna Reid shared photos of herself at the awards ceremony on her Instagram stories enjoying the evening with various celebrities including her former Good Morning Britain co-anchor Piers Morgan.

She also shared selfies with BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent, First Dates star Fred Serex, This Morning’s Vanessa Feltz and Ed Balls.

Reid quit drinking in 2018 after a doctor warned him about weight gain. Speaking about her sobriety in 2019, she told the Sunday Times magazine: “Seven months on my skin isn’t perfect but it’s clear. And so is my head. I’m sleeping better.”

“I’m not nervous. I don’t for one minute miss the jittery feeling in your body in the morning, which means I couldn’t rest the day after a big night.”

She admitted: “I’m not completely dry… a lot of times you come back to it.”
