The principal and two instructors of the Government Girls High School were suspended by the Narowal deputy commissioner on Thursday for allegedly forcing girl students to dance to an Indian song at a ‘Jashan-e-Baharan’ program a few days ago.
The girls’ parents, civil society, and religious organizations in the city were outraged when the video of their dance went viral on social media. They criticized the school administration for forcing the female students to dance. When the video of the dance went viral on social media, the girls’ parents, civil society, and religious organizations were appalled. In response to the incident, a protest was held, calling for the school principal’s punishment.
It was brought to the attention of Narowal Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar, who suspended school principal Parveen Waqar and two teachers, Hina and Farzana.
Meanwhile, Narowal, the President of the Bar Young Lawyers’ Forum, has filed a complaint with the local police station.
The event was arranged by Assistant Commissioner Shakargarh Usman Akram, District Education Officer (DEO) Akhtar Mehmood, DEO Secondary Education Chaudhry Muhamad Iqbal, and DEO Female Kulsoom Bajwa, according to the application. The list also includes Deputy DEO Fouzia Anwar and Assistant Education Officer (AEO) Ayesha Sultan.
An investigation into the incident was also ordered by the deputy commissioner.
According to the report, the programme was held in front of thousands of people, including family members, under the supervision and guidance of the above-mentioned officials.
The soul of this programme was to create and spread awareness among the masses regarding the empowerment, safety, and education for girls, but it was very unfortunate to witness that the concerned authorities directed a programme in which schoolgirls were forced to greet the guests while dancing to an Indian song, according to the Finance Secretary of Shakar Garh Bar Association.
This type of shameless culture is being taught and perpetuated in our educational institutions, which is really concerning.
