What does a human see in last moments of his death? Death Valley returnees often have very unusual experiences, such as seeing a light at the end of a tunnel. Seeing a spirit out of their body, meeting loved ones who have passed on from this world. Or suddenly the important events of a lifetime playing like a movie.
Recent research doesn’t know why this happens. But according to a new paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. University of Michigan researchers found evidence of an increase in brain activity associated with consciousness in 2 dying patients.
Although this research paper is not new but it is unique in its kind because it contains a detailed report.
Gamma Frequency increased in last moments of death
During the study, when the doctors sure that the life of 4 patients could not revived with medical help. Who went into a coma due to cardiac arrest. They removed from the ventilator and observed.
When they taken off the ventilator, 2 of the 4 patients, a 24-year-old woman and a 77-year-old woman, had increased gamma frequencies in their heart rates and brain waves.
Remember that this fastest activity in the brain is associated with consciousness.
It should noted here that a similar study conducted in 2022 in which an 87-year-old woman died from a fall. And an increase in gamma frequency also observed in her brain before her death.
However, recent research examining which parts of the brain light up or become active before death has shown that the ‘posterior cortical hot zone‘, the part of the brain associated with consciousness, is activated.
When there is activity in this part of the brain. It means that the patient is seeing, hearing, and sensing the surrounding movements.
According to the researchers, in the last moments of the life of these patients, their heart and brain activities were observed one after the other, as a result of which further increase was observed.
Researchers are still unable to understand why only these 2 patients experienced these possible symptoms of ‘secret consciousness’ while the other 2 did not.
Because the sample size for this study is small, the researchers are unable to draw any clear conclusions yet.
Furthermore, researchers are still unable to confirm whether patients actually have dreams or whether they are all just speculations because patients are not alive to report their experiences.
The researchers hope to collect data from hundreds more people in the future to increase the chances of reaching a solid conclusion.
